To ensure that you are really comfortable and well looked after, we have selected a range of accommodation options in the areas where we work that offer high quality services and great Italian hospitality. Details can be found in our Where to stay page.
Family Ecoadventures don’t require high levels of fitness or any particular expertise, as we calibrate the type and level of physical activity according to your circumstances and tailor the experience to suit your family’s wants and needs. They are available all year long and can last from a weekend through to a week.
Venture into the depths of a native woodland that is still inhabited by wild boars and red squirrels.
Take an adventurous moonlight hike to learn about the natural history of nocturnal animals and perhaps meet-up with some wild boars, foxes, beech martins, bats or other night creatures.
Go on a reptile safari to look for snakes and lizards and become more familiar with tracks and signs in nature by learning to identify wild animal footprints, scats, feathers, pellets and feeding signs.
Wander through some spectacular wild flower meadows with their wealth of butterflies and colours.
Explore a stream habitat to discover its fascinating underwater world of strange hidden creatures and benthic beasts. And after your adventures out in the wild, enjoy the best of Italian country food and relax in a timeless rural landscape.
Tailored for those of you who love the water element, this themed vacation is focused on exploring fresh water environments and experiencing their wildlife and aquatic ecology.
You will hike into a secluded mountain valley to visit a pristine stream, swim and snorkel in its refreshing plunge pools and explore its ecology, before visiting a little traditional village and sampling some locally produced cheeses and other delicacies.
You’ll visit a spring-fed lake, take an exciting boat trip and look for some rare birds before relaxing on the lakeshore and enjoying an Italian style ‘aperitivo’ with a chilled glass of ‘Erbaluce’, the unique local white wine, while the children paddle and perhaps do a spot of fishing.
You’ll explore some of the area’s larger rivers that originate from Piemonte’s Alpine heights and flow out to the plains, making ideal venues for expeditions focused on canoeing, birdwatching and mineral collecting (even gold panning!). After our daily adventures, you’ll appreciate returning to the comfort and hospitality of your delightful rural accommodation.
An intense and exciting family getaway to explore our relationship with the natural world and deepen our connection with the animate earth through a series of adventurous journeys into wild spaces and creative games in nature. An important chance to get children and adults into the natural environment to engage their bodies, senses, and imaginations in a context that is ecologically real and physically grounded and far from the digitalised and virtualised experiences that tend to characterise so much of our every day life. We will enjoy some deep ecology field sessions, engage in some exciting bushcraft and camp making in the wild and play some tracking games and other creative activities that increase awareness of our interdependence with our living planet. Piemonte’s intact ecosystems and wealth of biodiversity make this area an ideal venue for such a journey of discovery.
This short break in rural Italy is focused on giving parents some precious time together while their kids are being cared for and have fun learning outdoors. Kids will take part in fun and enriching environmental education experiences in safe natural spaces that will foster their sense of connection to, and trust in nature, while developing new skills and learning about the environment and wildlife. Parents will have some ‘alone time’ together and choose between various options, such as a romantic meal in a quality restaurant, a wine tasting tour, a visit to a delightful hill-top village or to the beautiful and exciting city of Torino. Or perhaps just relax together and enjoy each others’ company in an intimate setting. Parents can decide how much time to spend on their own and how much to be involved in family oriented activities with their kids.
This vacation is intended to refresh parents and profitably entertain kids so that the family as a whole enjoys a valuable and revitalising break.
The region of Piemonte has some of the most spectacular Alpine landscapes and high mountains in Europe, still untouched by mass tourism and full of wildness and magic. During this adventure we will venture into remote mountain valleys and pristine alpine woodlands to discover their nature, observe their rich wildlife and learn about their exciting ecology and traditional cultures. We will breathe reinvigorating fresh air, splash in crystal clear streams, trek along ancient mountain foot-paths which lead to Alpine meadows and rocky peaks that are home to golden eagles, wolves, chamois, marmots and a wealth of other wildlife. This journey is gauged to enable families with children to experience spectacular natural landscapes and enjoy some true wilderness, without any overly demanding physical exertion or mountaineering. We will be accommodated in comfortable mountain chalets or mountain refuges in tiny and secluded stone-built villages where we will also have a chance to enjoy traditional mountain dishes, locally produced cheeses and other delicacies.
Piemonte’s landscape with its vineyards, meadows, small farms and rice paddies has been intimately shaped by food production. It is a region where many foods are still produced in a small-scale, traditional way and whose cheeses, wines and chocolate are world famous. It is no coincidence that the Slow Food movement originated and has its headquarters in this region of Italy!
This holiday provides families with a unique journey into Italian food that will increase their awareness of what food is, where it comes from and how we effect the natural world through its production and consumption. This trip also aims to stimulate children’s curiosity to try new dishes and delicacies, and gets them to think more closely about what foods they desire and the effects of their consumption.
During our food adventure we’ll travel to mountain pastures to experience local cheese production, take part in a traditional grape harvest (vendemmia) and make wine with local peasants who have participated in this age old practice since the dawn of history. We’ll make pizza in a wood burning oven, explore the magical world of bees and honey production, collect wild herbs, mushrooms and chestnuts and try cooking them according to a selection of exciting recipes. We’ll take a chocolate and ice cream tour of the city of Torino and explore some of its fantastic street markets with their wealth of foodstuffs and delicacies. And for families who are interested, we can offer a visit and tour of the Slow Food International headquarters.
During this trip we will spend some precious time in a remote Alpine area that is inhabited by a small population of wild wolves that have mysteriously returned to the North-Western Alps from their range in central Italy. We will learn about wolf ecology and discover the amazing story of how this shy and persecuted top predator is returning to some of its former European haunts after having been eradicated almost a century ago. Our adventure will lead us into some pristine mountain valleys where we will look for wolf tracks and signs and get in touch with the reality and mythology that surround this most enigmatic and elusive animal. We will engage in story-telling and fun games whilst we explore this beautiful and mystical landscape and are accommodated in authentic mountain chalets where one can sometimes hear wolves howling at night!
During this exciting getaway we will explore the landscape and our relationship to natural space by engaging our imaginations and creative faculties. We’ll venture into some evocative and wild landscapes where the wealth of ecological wonders set an inspiring environment for our interactive games and storytelling sessions. We’ll learn about some mythological beasts that inhabit woodlands and mountains and see if we can discover any new creatures or mystical beings who make their lairs in the landscapes we explore. This is an innovative and fun way to develop new perspectives on nature, finding alternative relationships and modes of interaction with the natural world. You’ll have the option to be accommodated in an atmospheric 15th century castle in very stylish, comfortable rooms and will have plenty of opportunities to sample the region’s local delicacies and fine wines while we tell stories around a roaring fire.
During this ecoadventure we will explore the magical world of herbs, spells and potions as we discover how plants have been used as medicines, poisons, talismans and ingredients for magic elixirs. We’ll learn about some principles of ethnobotany and discover how people from diverse cultures have relied on plants for everything from food and medicine to spell making and weaponry. We’ll search for a range of wild plants in beautiful natural landscapes and learn about how to recognise, collect and prepare them. We’ll actually make some magic potions and prepare some wild food recipes and dishes while we have fun exploring the pristine Italian landscape. You will be accommodated in a tiny village in an area of rolling-hills, ancient woodland and traditional vineyards.
